Advanced Dynamics by Timoshenko & Young (1948 1st
Edition HC w/o DJ)
Author:
Stepan Prokofyevich Timoshenko (1878–1972)
Author: Donovan Harold Young (1904-1980)
Publisher: McGraw-Hill Book Company New York, NY U.S.A. 1948
This is a book that every civil engineer needs as part of their library. Although copyrighted in 1948, it is still an important book where fundamental concepts are derived and applied by hand. A classical text on dynamics analysis written by pioneering mechanical experts from Stanford.
Classic text contains detailed sections on both theoretical & applied dynamics including a system of particles, systems with constraints, theory of small vibrations, and rotation of a rigid body about a fixed point. Approximately 150 problems w/o solutions, an appendix: Dimensional Analysis and Theory of Models, Indexed xii + 400pp.
Stepan Prokofyevich Timoshenko (1878–1972), was a Ukrainian-born Russian and, later, an American engineer and academician. He is considered to be the father of modern engineering mechanics. An inventor and one of the pioneering mechanical engineers at the St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. A founding member of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, Timoshenko wrote seminal works in the areas of engineering mechanics, elasticity and strength of materials, many of which are still widely used today.
Donovan Harold Young (1904-1980) was the Silas H. Palmer Professor of Civil Engineering, Stanford University. He obtained his Master's degree in 1930 and his doctorate, under the guidance of Stephen Timoshenko in 1934, both at the University of Michigan.

/Edition ratings:
Fine – means like new, but any book produced over 10 years ago isn't “brand new” or even “new.” Booksellers needed some word to describe this...
Like New – A new book, no marks no damage (except maybe remainder marks or shelf-wear)
except not
obtained directly from the publisher or in packaging from the publisher.
Very Good – How you or I might take care of a book, closer to “as new” than standard. Might show ownership.
Good – How someone else might take care of a book. Also referred to as “standard.” This is the most likely condition for books of this age & title, shows the book has been read or previously owned.
Acceptable – How a child, student or a librarian might take care of a book. (Either trying to make sure someone doesn't steal it by plastering ownership everywhere, filled it with copious notes or a book that has been damaged.)
Poor – Combination of “acceptable” factors above. Most likely with water damage as well. Might have
missing pages (you should ask).
Near – Means “almost” in an optimistic sense. e.g., “Near Fine” means very good, but on the high end.
